OurCarbon Enhanced Concrete Project Wins Concrete Award

This year’s National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA) Innovative Project Award was given to Solid Carbon for their founding concrete pour at Remy Wines incorporating OurCarbon® within other low carbon solutions in their Drabkin Mead Formulation.

This accolade from such a large member organization as the NRMCA pays tribute to the accomplishment of the Remy Wines concrete slab that sequesters over 5 tons of carbon within it thanks to OurCarbon’s fixed carbon content.

Completed in June of 2022, this project utilized a novel formulation incorporating 100 lbs of OurCarbon per cubic yard dubbed the ‘Drabkin Mead Formulation’ in honor of those involved (Remy Drabkin and John Mead). Not only does this formulation incorporate OurCarbon… it also utilizes supplementary cementitious materials and novel cements to reduce its overall carbon footprint; a true innovation.

Before incorporating OurCarbon, the Drabkin Mead formulation is already around 150 lbs CO2e per cubic yard in Global Warming Potential (GWP), roughly half of the US average. Adding in the 100 lbs of OurCarbon at just over -1 lb CO2e/lb material brings this mix below 50 lbs CO2e per cubic yard, making it an ultra low carbon formulation.
